Issue #120 (Minimalist Status Bar)08/07/24
For the UI minimalists out there, don't forget that VS Code's status bar, which appears at the bottom of the VS Code UI is fully configurable. You might see a lot of different little icons in your status bar that you don't necessarily need or even ever use on projects.
For example, the left side of the status bar might look something like this on Windows:
And the right side, which is probably the more useful side for many of us:
If you want to clean up your status bar and only leave visible the items you actually pay attention to, simply right-click anywhere on the status bar and customize as you see fit.
As indicated in the screenshot below, if you click a specific item, that item will be shown as the default 'hide this item' command at the bottom of the right-click menu. But you can customize any of the items by checking or unchecking them as needed.
And if you happen to hit the 'Hide Status Bar' option, seen at the top of the m enu, which hides the whole thing, you can re-enable it by searching for 'status bar' in your UI settings. The UI settings also include an option for not hiding the status bar when you enter Zen Mode, should you want to change that from the default setting that hides it.
Now on to this week's hand-picked links!

VS Code Theme of the Week
|
Relaxed — This is an older theme that hasn't been updated in a while and the screenshot images on the extension page are broken. Nonetheless, it's a decent theme with a washed-out pastel colors look.
This wouldn't be a great option for those who like a lot of contrast, but it's a nice one if you prefer a more toned-down and "relaxed" feel.
